The Baltimore Orchestra
For eight consecutive weeks beginning on July 25, XM Classics will re-broadcast the eight concerts by the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra that were aired monthly during the just-concluded 2007-2008 season, the first season of the Music Directorship of Marin Alsop. The first concert will be an encore of XM's live broadcast of the opening concert of the season last September. The program includes "Fearful Symmetries" by American composer John Adams and the Symphony No. 5 by Gustav Mahler. The remaining concerts will include four Beethoven symphonies, Carl Orff's "Carmina Burana," and music by contemporary composers Alan Jay Kernis, Steven Mackey, Christopher Rouse, John Corigliano, and Joan Tower. The concerts will air at 9PM ET on Fridays and again at 3PM ET on Sundays, beginning with the weekend of July 25-27.
